“Bye Bye Brazil”

The movie takes place in mid to late ’70 in Brazil. The "Gypsy Lord" of a traveling tent show that winds its way through the back roads of Brazil, playing to tiny villages along the edge of the ever-shrinking jungle. A star-struck young accordionist is enamored by the troupe, and he and his pregnant young wife join them, jostling around in the back of the truck. Thus, the story hangs partly on man's desire to have a "better life," to escape poverty and boredom for what seem like the romantic, adventuresome and bountiful lifestyle of the rovers. With the arrival of electricity and television to the villages, the troupe finds that the audiences are no longer lining up to see the seductive "Solome, Queen of the Rhumba". They arrive in one such village to find the streets deserted and the entire population gathered around one television. Our young accordionist being in love with Solome decides to cheat on his wife, while she is sitting outside of the tent that he

They are desperate, need the money. The young accordionist says he wants a part of the business, and gives his wife to the arms of the night. Both of the women become prostitutes, as their “men” told them to do so. The "Gypsy Lord" and Solome stay behind and make dirty money to rebuild the show. This is the first time that the women of Brazil as very weak and having no say of their own. During the stay in the city the "Gypsy Lord" looses the whole business in one round of arm wrestling. As her first client approaches, offers a drink and something more, the husband decides that his wife will not sleep with this man. In the morning the decision is that Solome is going to become a full time prostitute in Belem. The group leader decides that Solome should sell her body, so they can move to the next town and resurrect their business. In the mean time the pregnant wife of our accordionist gives birth to a baby girl. Color televisions, planes, clubs killed every chance of his show’s success. As the travelers continue their journey, the band's leader feels sure that they will reap great profits by going to a certain regions of Brazil. The joint venture is broken up, but young lover decides to abandon his wife and child on the bus stop and ask Solome to join him on his life journey.
