             Much advancement in technology has brought about great changes. One of the greater inventions is television. Though it has many advantages to it, there are just as much dangers lurking behind the coloured box. If one is not careful, there could be drastic changes that the person is not even aware of. Once a person is addicted, they can't stop the bad habit.
             Every time a person turns on the television, it gives the following messages:
             "The things you yourself could do are second rate"
             "Thank God you have television to bring glamour and professional entertainment into your life!"
             Not only are these messages insulting, but study after study have shown that television is hurting the quality of human lives. There are many good arguments for getting rid of television all together.
             Television is not stimulating, nor educational. Many of the people who are against the television box are teachers. They have seen first hand how it kills creativity and disrupts concentration. Television causes delayed acquisition of speech in very young children and is being studied for possible links to attention deficit disorder - a condition that has spread widely since the introduction of television into many homes. Television has been linked to heart disease and depression. And far from relaxing, television actually raises stress levels. It makes a person lethargic, unhappy and unable to concentrate for hours after watching.
             A study by Roger Putnam at Harvard University revealed that generations of people after 1950 have stopped participating. They know less and join in less. From bowling clubs to national politics, people are staying home and doing nothing. The study isolated a single cause for this erosion of social capital: television.
