Bel Canto

Characters are fictional representations of real people. In litterature, different cahracters react with each other in different ways. In Bel Canto by Ann Patchett, there are several characters that react in different ways according to the events that occur during ht novel. One main character of the book is Roxanne Coss. Roxanne is a famous opera singer from Chicago that was paid to sing at a dinner party in honor of Mr. Hosokawa, a Japanese business man. The people were lead to believe that he was going to make a big business deal with the host country. Roxanne was a dynamic character in this novel. She changed in many ways throughout the book. At the beginning of the novel, she wasn't really spoken to. She was mostly being protected by her accompantist the entire time. When her accompanist died, Roxanne had to take on a new perspective and was almost forced to talk to the other people there; otherwise, she would be all alone. S

Another obstacle she had to overcome was that she was the only woman kept behind when the terrorists let people go the next morning. In conclusion, the main characters are all characters that change throughout the novel depending on the events that occur and the position that they are involved in. Gen usually acted as the middle man, but on the up side of acting as the middle man, he also always knew what was going on, and who was being kept and released. He mostly talked to Gen and sometimes Roxanne, but otherwise he mostly kept to himself. Hosokawa, he also helped out the Generals (terrorists) in their barganing with Messner, a Red Cross member, helping deal with the neggotiations between the terrorists and the government. he faced a language barrier, but fortunately there was, Gen, a traslator there to help her along the way. I, in many ways, am different from Mr.
