Pocahontas
Pocahontas was an Indian princess, the daughter of Powhatan who was the chief of an Indian tribe in Virginia. Powhatan had many wives and twenty- seven children, one being Pocahontas. She was born in the 1950s and she was named Matoaka though she is better known as Pocahontas, which means playful. Pocahontas probably saw white men for the first time in May 1607 when Englishmen landed at Jamestown, and this is also the first time she set eyes on John Smith. While leading an expedition in December 1607 he was taken captive by some Indians. One day as the Indians stood over him ready to bash his head a small Indian girl, also known as Pocahontas came between John S
" Pocahontas had to do a lot with Virginias history . Later on while in London Pocahontas got a severe case of tuberculosis. They married in April of 1614, he was ten years older then her. After a lot of thought Rolfe finally decided to marry Pocahontas after she had been converted to Christianity. This brought Pocahontas and John Smith a lot closer. In April of 1613 returned back to Jamestown. Later on when Pocahontas came to visit the fort, they told her that Smith was dead. She was a success when she was introduced to Queen Elizabeth. While in bed sick one day John Smith came and payed her a visit. For the next year the Indians and the Englishmen got along very well. In October 1609, John Smith was badly injured by a gunpowder explosion and was forced to return to England. Powhatan said that they were now friends, and he adopted Smith as his son. She could not have been more surprised to see John Smith actually alive after so many years of thinking he was dead. I feel that Pocahontas despite everything wrong that occurred played an important role in American History. Pocahontas' husband and their young son accompanied her when she was sent to London to seek financial support.
