United Under One

Aldous Huxley once said, "...every cause is also an effect, and every effect is at the same time a cause." The Federalists wanted us all to be united; many different states that make up one great country with a central government to watch over them. They wanted organization for our nation and they had the government set up with representatives to would give each state a voice that could be heard. In the Federalist paper # 31, Alexander Hamilton addressed that the idea of a federation to give the states some power with a central government controlling the amount of state power. The idea was not to restrict and give the states no voice or power and it was not to tax everything in sight. Brutus implied that that was, what the Federalists were trying to do. The real fact of the matter is that states do need their own power and laws because they are separate and independent from other states, but their laws should keep in context with the nation's laws and that there are certain issues states have where the nation needs to step in because of the state's decision has an effect on the whole nation. The Federalists tried to control these effects by regarding the public good, considering all voices and holding everyone to the same s

We already have people importing narcotics from other countries and do not need the importation from inside our country boundaries. This needs to be a national issue because it does affect more than just the surrounding states. When there are different standards for every state there's too many possible rules that could be bent for how you see them fit. The Great Lakes water issue is one that needs to be discussed from the point of a national issue so the general welfare of the people can be kept easily in mind if everyone is being represented. We're one nation and need to have the same standards for everyone. Hamilton said continuously in Federalist # 31 that we need to promote the general welfare of the people and make our decisions based on the good of the people. Although it does mostly affect the states that are by the Great Lakes there are more people in this nation than just them and everyone's voice needs to be considered because whether it's a direct or indirect effect, the movement of water and how we get our water affects everyone. But at regard to the public good and to the sense of the people" (14). We are one nation, united and should make our decisions based on the country, as a country. As a federal issue more voices may be heard that have good reasoning on why the water should be given to the southern states. " The individual state governments should not interfere with the government protection the nation as a whole. Besides water and narcotic issues, another issue that we have currently had to deal with is the standards of food such as hot dogs. That just so happens to be the case of the issue of moving water from the Great Lakes down to some western states that have a water shortage. This is an issue that once again has an effect on everyone, especially their health.
