Acid Rain essay
My report is on Acid Rain. I gathered up information from many web sites for this project. This should give u more information on acid rain. I talk about hat is acid rain, who discovered it, how is acid rain created, how is it created, how can it be stopped, why is it a probelm.... and other stuff. I even found pictures to go with this project like what happens to things effected by acid rain. Acid rain is just a way to say several ways that acids fall out of the sky the real term is acid deposition. There are two parts to acid deposition wet and dry. Wet deposition is Fog, Rain and Snow. This type mostly effects plants, animals and water. The strength of the effects depends on its ph level and with what it comes in contact with.Dry deposition is acidic gases and particles. The wind blows these gases and transports them when they come into contact with building, trees... the stick to those things. When it rains the rain washes off the building and the rain becomes more acidic.Acid rain was discovered in 1852 by Scientist when a english chemist Robert Agnus invented the term. They discovered it by testing the ph level of rain 1 day and found out
The acid level that rises also releases toxic metals trapped inside the rocks and stop the fish from breathing. TreesThis is a big problem for trees the acid makes the needles fall out of the trees and also destroys the seeds that they had to reproduce not only that but the acid also destroy nutrients that the trees need to get stronger and live such as calcium, magnesium and potassium, so the trees will starve. The acid desolves calcium carbonate in the stone, it then creates crystals inside the stone wich keeps growing and cracks the rock and then crumbles. that the ph level was lower than the ph level of rain, it isn't much of a difference but enough so it could actually create a problem. BuildingsIt also does a great deal of damage to buildings and statues. How can we prevent acid rain?To prevent acid rain u must cut out on using sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides. * Avoid the use of air conditioners altogether. At home* Install a low-flow showerhead. The ph level is measured with two strips put into the water the paper turns a certain color. * Turn down the heat at night and when away from home. * Have your engine tuned at least once every six months. * Turn off the hot water tank when going away for extended periods of time. How is acid rain created?Sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) are the primary causes for acid rain. There are over 10, 000 lakes that people should not eat the fish cause of the high mercury level.
