Aristotle
Aristotle was a famous ancient philosopher and scientist that lived from 384 to 322 B.C. He was born in Macedonia to a physician of the royal court. He moved to Athens when he was 17, to study with Plato, another famous philosopher of his time. Aristotle is said to have loved his teacher a great deal, but he loved the truth more. When Plato died, Aristotle moved to Assos to counsel his friend and ruler, Hermias. He married Hermias' niece and they adopted a daughter. When Hermias was killed by the Persians, Aristotle moved to the Macedonian capital, Pella where he tutored the prince, Alexander. Upon Alexander's becoming king, Aristotle moved back to Athens and opened his own school in Athens called Lyceum. Aristotle died a few years later at a family estate in Euboea. Aristotle is a very interesting and gifted person that I would love to read more about. " Many of Aristotle's writings can be found in the Lyceum library along with the Constitution of Athens, which was lost and then recovered again in a papyrus copy in 1890. I find it very amazing as to where he obtained all that knowledge. I believe there will be no one like him to come along for quite a while. Aristotle also says that there are many other gods, but the "Prime," being the highest due to the fact that he is perfect and everyone desires perfection. He believed this way of thinking to be the best way to organize things and his lecture notes gave evidentiary support for this. He argued that the soul was a part of the body, emotionally and physically. Aristotle also continued on with Plato's main focus, mathematics. From what philosophers have concurred, Aristotle was not a religious man. He believed there to around 50 astronomy gods. Aristotle also wrote about the soul in one of his books, On the soul. He says that growth, purpose, and direction are built into one. Aristotle was often ridiculed for believing that every person was an individual and that everything was its own.
