Do you ever feel lonely? Have you ever lost all hope and then out of nowhere all your troubles are gone? Boyz II Men’s song, “The Color of Love,” speaks of these painful feelings and how to overcome them. I decided to write about this song because loneliness is a universal feeling that we can all relate to. When you feel alone you can experience confusion and mixed emotions. These mixed emotions can lead you to do things you might not want to do or you do not realize at the moment what it is that you are doing. Loneliness is something that everyone has gone through and there is no denying it. When you feel lonely all you want is some sort of comfort and advice. Someone to help you through the good times and the bad times. If you are lucky that special person will be by your side to help you and show you the way to happiness. After overcoming hard times everything seems to fall back into place and you do not feel out of place anymore. “And I was at the end of my rope, I needed someone to cut me loose.” To me this quote means going through hard times and yearning for someone’s attention. It is our loved ones that make our hearts grow and teach us to always be willing to share love with everyone through the good and bad times. In the song, Boyz II Men uses a metaphor to compare a guide with a bridge over water. For me love is also a universal feeling just like loneliness. Some people feel that they have no point in life, but their only reasons for living is because they know they have loved ones who really care for them. Boyz II Men compares the guidance through life with a bridge over troubled water. There are some verses that really seem more motherly than others and the others do not really apply. The first line says, “ I know the color of love and it lives inside of you” and it can be viewed in various ways. There have been many moments like that that I have been through and that special someone for me has always been my mother. Some people try to hide their emotions, but deep down inside everyone has a sensitive side. “When love was locked inside of me”, means how before he met the girl he knew there was love inside of him, but it was locked inside of him.
