Cold War and the Events of 9/11/02

A sense of fear existed during the cold war. The same feelings have been brought about with the terrorist attack on 9/11. There are many similar reasons why.In the cold war, America and Russia had a verbal war between each other as well as an arms race. This included many new weapons of mass destruction, such a nuclear weapons, unmanned ballistic missiles, and satellites. The U.S. also tried to stop communist Russia from taking over Europe. The president did declare war and as a result we sent many U. This action claimed thousands of lives and toppled the two towers. And in many cases that fear and paranoia led to the accusation of many innocent people, and in some cases the ruining of lives. But just like in the cold war Americans now labeled most people of Middle Eastern decent or race as a suspected terrorist. Because we were so frightened we started falsely accusing many Americans as being suspected communist, including famous actors and directors, ordinary working class people, and even members of our own government. military groups to the Middle East to take out the terrorist leader, Osama Binladen, and to take out the terrorist training facilities. Americans were shocked and horrified, they wanted a fast retaliation, however we could not easily fight an enemy we could not see. On September 11th 2001, the United States suffered the worst terrorist attack in our history; two full sized passenger planes were hijacked by Middle Eastern terrorist and flown into each tower of the world trade center. Both of these events, the cold war and the 9/11 attack, sparked a sense of fear and paranoia in the American public. As a result many people were accused of acts of terrorism when in fact they had done nothing.
