Grading system
According to "Growth in The United Nations Member, 1945-2003", now there are 191 countries in the world. Almost all the countries have schools. In school, we get not only knowledge from teachers but also learn socialization skill from peer group; therefore, school takes a great important role in adolescent, and education enables us to broaden our perspective. When we evaluate student's academic achievement, we adapt the grading system. In the United States, A-F grading system is mainly adapted. However, it sometimes causes students a lot of problems.Under the A-F grading system, students feel much academic pressure, and they study hard more than necessary to keep good GPA or to get scholarship. For example, suicide, bullying, drug use and prostitution, which are attributable to the rigorous educational system, are played up in the newspapers, and we are always surprised. Some school teachers and parents who support the A-F grading system never allow getting away from academic rigor and competition. They always say platitudinously that you study hard or you cannot go to a good university or get a better job. Student's will and characteristic don't exist there. I do believe that we abolish the A-F grading system and adopt the pass
If my university adapted the pass/fail grading system, I would not feel much academic pressure and drop out of the school. "In Students Evaluate Pass-Fail", author Sean Amos, who is the student at the Harvard Medical School, criticizes that the A-F grading and reports several benefits after introducing the pass/fail grading instead of traditional A-F grading in his university. "Grades and Money" author Steven Vogel, who supports the A-F grading system, claims the idea that students should study without grades to develop talents is an illusion. In fact, he recalls those days and says to me, "At that time, I felt as if I studied not for myself but for only grades. Alternatively, schools should adopt the pass/fail grading, which provides the education free of pressure, prompts self-discipline to students and is simpler to understand compared with the A-F grading system. Also, when I was in high school, I could pursue world history, which is most favorite subject, despite of the difficulty, thanks to the pass-fail grading. The pass/fail grading encourages students to broaden perspective emotionally and intellectually (pa 6). "In some area, we don't use the A-F grading system to evaluate someone's qualification. Besides, the pass/fail grading system is more and more adapted these days. Many students enjoyed the course without caring about a grade, too. I still have great interest in it, too, and I always read books about world history. It would allows "students the flexibility to pursue a more self-directed learning style" and mental stability (pa 3). He did not go to elite university; moreover he dropped out only for 1 year, because he felt much academic pressure under the A-F grading system. Beside, he writes that only grade shows our ability and "grades are money, and nothing is important for itself. , Ltd stops giving test-takers an overall score on exams, and instead of it, they adapted the pass/fail grading.
