Mending Wall
Mending wall is a poem written by Robert Frost. The poem is about the building of a wall between two neighbors. Both neighbors are dominant over the other. Both neighbors do not agree with each other and form a boundary, this wall. "Good fences make good neighbors." This suggests that this wall was built purposely to separate them. They do not seem to have good communications and do not get on well. The building of this wall is something that seems to be a traditional occurrence that has been going on for centuries. Throughout the poem the narrator uses sarcasm to deliberately to mock what his neighbor believes. The whole idea behind the poem is the creation of boundaries between things in nature. The sun, a rabbit, ye
I believe that there is a boundary that is established between the physical world as well as the inner world. The constant fight between Arabs and Jews over the centuries is another mental wall that has been build. The first thing that went through my mind when I read this poem was Jewish people and the walls that were build between them and different groups of people. The poem could have been between to neighbors living next door to each other, a boyfriend and girlfriend that broke up but are constantly battling, world events such as the conflict in the middle east, racial relations, and many more. In the poem there are lines that keep repeating themselves which makes it seem that whatever is going on between the neighbors, has been going on for years and years between the neighbors. To me, this poem was a metaphor for a couple of events in my life. The poem is in one stanza, which is quite interesting because to me the whole poem is a wall of words. To this day there is a question that remains unanswered. lping dogs, spring mending-time, an outdoor game, pine, apple-orchard, eating cones, his pines, cows, woods, and the shade of trees are examples of words that are used in the poem to create boundaries through nature. "Mending Wall" had a different meaning to then what the poem might have meant. This is related to the poem because one neighbor is not quite sure why there is a wall. The rhyming scheme doesn't appear to be straightforward which makes the poem more interesting to me. Where will the borders finally pass through the land- and what price will be paid by both sides until them? The Jews and Arabs are constantly fighting over land to make a physical border such as the poem is about, but they already have a mental "Mending wall. The Nazis built a wall against Jews and although one of the neighbors knew the reason the other didn't quite understand completely.
