Risk Syndrom in Teens
Risk Syndrome Found In Overweight Teens There are several issues that need to be dealt with in the world today but overweight teens is something so important that it requires immediate attention. "Nearly 1 million U.S. teenagers suffer from a syndrome associated with being overweight that makes them unusually prone to diabetes and premature heart disease later in life"(Washington Post 2003), this number frightens me. This article information is as of 2003, but unfortunately the situation has only got worse. When searching for an article in the Washington Post to use for my report, this one struck my eye, or heart. Reason why ? My generation ( teens ) is mentioned in the title of this article along with the devastating word Overweight. Everyone knows that being overweight is setting you up for heart disease, and heart disease for the early aged is key for a short life. In this article I learned that this metabolic syndrome is becoming more popular among the American population particularly the young who are overweight, "It's very , very disturbing. You're talking about people who haven't even become adults yet who are already on the way to cardiovascular disease," (Washington Post 2003) says Michael W
Another reason this was of interest to me was because this in most cases is a preventable disease, and if this is preventable and the numbers are rising something is wrong and it needs to be addressed. There is plenty of room for improvement in my lifestyle, and If I can help it I'm living a long healthy life. An issue of this stature and importance needs to be reinforced as much as possible. Get them on track and show them the facts, this is what happens if this lifestyle persist. eitzman, director of American Academy of Pediatrics' Center for Child Health Research. The audience for this article is mainly to the overweight population, but can be a message to everyone in sake of prevention. The last statistic is simply mind boggling, "Studies show that overweight children tripled between 1970 and the year 2000, reaching 15 percent of those ages 7 to 19. My interest in this article was that this metabolic syndrome was affecting the population that me and my friends are apart of. " (Washington Post 2003) These children are setting themselves up for type 2 diabetes, if you have type 2 diabetes when you at the age of 15 what is next ? I'll tell you what is next a heart attack at the age of 30-35. The audience of this article could be fast food restaurants such as McDonalds and Burger King to start producing more healthy attractive foods for the youth of America to eat. The information in this article seemed very reliable. All information was pulled from head health officials, and now that I think about it, it doesn't seem that far fetched. Just recently I have made a change to my lifestyle because I started to experience chest pains where my heart is located, It turns out I'm just really out of shape, and my heart was under stress. American Academy of Pediatrics' Center for Child Health Research supported this article in full.
