EU globalization

             Between 1986 and 1992, the European Union, a union which currently consists of Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, became an internal market without any boundaries and barriers. Many individuals, including Martin Wolf, define a globalized region as "a world where the costs of transport and communications were zero and the barriers created by differing national jurisdictions had vanished." The European Union is a process in development which is facing the challenges of globalization. The process of uniting independent nations, some which have existed for centuries, into one unified community does have challenges other than the obvious loss of national identity. The further enlargement of the European Union provides its own challenges. Security, the diversity of Europe, and the conflicts faced from racism and prejudice must be addressed and dealt with. The labor markets provide even more challenges to the European Union. The manner and extent of labor mobility must be addressed, with some sort of solutions to the problems that come with the migration of labor. The challenges that arise in the labor markets can also be met with the labor market regulation from the European Union.
             One of the challenges facing the enlargement of the European Union is security, which is not just political issue, but also a social issue. The two divisions of security are political security and social security. In the United States and the western world, security in everyday life has been made a huge issue, especially after the events that took place on September 11, 2001 in the United States. National security is apparently more important than the basic level security. This shows that there are two sides of security that should not be ignored in the European Union.
