A True Romantic Fantasy

We often wonder what the afterlife is all about. Often times, most of us want to be reunited with our one true love, our soul mates, and to live in our ultimate fantasy world. The movie, "What Dreams May Come" is a perfect example of a Fantasy Romance. Two lovers, Chris and Annie, were torn away from each other by death, eventually ending up in two different worlds. Destined to find his soul mate, Chris went on a journey that he would never forget. When Chris and Annie met, it was love at first sight. Seeing her sail across the lake in her little canoe caught his attention quickly because of her beauty and her red clothes. They met up with each other later on the top of a mountain and this is where the romance began. They got married and started a family with two beautiful children names Ian and Marie, but their journey to find each other had just begun. The death of their children in the car crash is what started it all.Four years after the death of his two children, Chris, their father, played by Robin Williams, is also killed in a tragic crash. He doesn't know how to accept his death and Heaven awaits him until he can. He attends his own funeral to see what has happened and finally realizes that he

When he eventually arrives to the real heaven he sees that it is a city of gold and God is always looking down on him saying "I love you". The two soul mates were reunited once again and went through reincarnation leaving the movie end up where it started in the beginning. He almost gives up, but he is so much in love with her that he won't let her go and he would do anything to help her. Heaven had no longer been heaven for Chris because his soul mate was going through hell, which was making him go through hell too. The best part of his Heaven is that his world is a painting, particularly his wife's painting. Annie wanted to be with Chris, she wanted to be reunited with her family because she was so lonely but what she didn't realize is that it wasn't her time. He sees the mansion that his wife painted for them and it makes him feel closer to her. The idea of being with your soul mate is the best thing to look forward to. The tree withers away because of the guilt and depression that she is facing because she loses the faith of connection with Chris. Chris would go to hell and back for her, literally, just so he could be with his soul mate. This shows the deep true love that lies between these two people. This leads Chris to go on his long, hard journey to find his wife. After passing through a sea of dead souls and a hell fire, he finally sees Annie and realizes that she is facing her personal hell of guilt and depression and she has no idea who her husband is. Chris went through many different stages through hell just to get to Annie to help her and be with her.
