History of House Music

             Like it or not, house was first and foremost a direct descendent of disco. House music which has been around now for about thirty years has changed the way people dance to music. House back when it was first introduced was not just a type of music but more like a way of life for people living in Chicago. Weekend after weekend people would flock to a place on the upper west side of Chicago called the Warehouse. At the Warehouse you could just let loose and let the house music take you away, because that's all that would be played their, house music. House now in our society is becoming more widespread due to the massive airplay it receives on radios as well as the music being used in certain commercials.
             House was first introduced right around the time that disco had started to slowly fade away. At this time in history most of the house tracks that were being produced were coming out of Chicago. This was due to the people in Chicago thinking that this type of music was going to be huge someday and them wanting to have something to do with it. According to Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton, "In Chicago, as the seventies became eighties, if you were black and gay your church may well have been Frankie Knuckle's Warehouse, a three story factory building in the city's desolate west side industrial zone". Frankie Knuckles has been described as one of the pioneers of house music. Frankie was the person responsible for the warehouse, where week in and week out kids would come here and pay four dollars to hear Frankie play this new type of music that people did not know much about. "But for several years, house was a feeling, a rebellious musical taste, a way of declaring yourself in the know" claims Brewster and Broughton. The term house claims to have many origins within the house music scene.
