He got fed up with the owners charging double price now, and all of a sudden the people coming to see him play were not what he was used to. But after Frankie had left the owners decided to get some fresh new talent behind the turntables, this idea showed to be a great idea.

Chip E an early house producer says that the word house music was first started in his record shop. The Hot Mix 5 at this time was the only dj’s to date to really mix the records together. Knuckles and Hardy used to just fade out the songs when they were done, then bring in the new record with a smooth fade. People used to go crazy to here the Hot Mix 5 play, people recall skipping school at lunch to go home and record the mixes so they could listen to them whenever they wanted to. So because kids would always ask for stuff that Frankie played at the warehouse he decided to label this music “House Music” short for warehouse.

People that were too young to grow up with the Music Box or the Warehouse were turned on to house music by a different group of dj’s. He says “People would come in and ask for the old sounds, the Salsoul that Frankie used to play at the warehouse”. They played new wave European pop including groups live Depeche Mode, Gary Numan, and even German techno pop by Falco. Frankie was the person responsible for the warehouse, where week in and week out kids would come here and pay four dollars to hear Frankie play this new type of music that people did not know much about. The term house claims to have many origins within the house music scene. Frankie Knuckles has been described as one of the pioneers of house music. They hired none other than Ron Hardy; arguably one of the best dj’s to ever grace the turntable.
