Article # 1- Preferences In Human Mate Selection
Usually chosing a mate can be a hard thing for some people. There is little known about peoples decisions
or what facts they chose in a mate. Although, characteristics are known there are not definite ones. In the article
there are studies how we choice the mates that we do and the effects of our decisions. Many people have tired
to develop theories on why we select the mates that we do. Some people say that it is biological and that it just
happens. Some people say that a phremone is released and somehow stilulates the other person and therefore
creating a attraction. Charles Darwin didn't want to believe this theory and set out to see if there was another
explanation. Darwin's concept of sexual selection involved things that he believed couldn't be explained by
natural selection. Natural selection is something that occurs naturally. When a mate is selected in a lion tribe,
the mate is selected by the size and reputation in the tribe. The biggest and strongest will be the one that the
female will mate with. Darwin's theories of sexual selection involved two processes. The first was intrasexual
selection, which involved how people are to compete with one another to somehow get the attention a person of
the opposite sex. The second was where a person woudl just select a mate by observation. This was called
intersexual selection. Sexual selection depends on the behavior of certain species and doesn't always have to be
about the one who is biggest or strongest. ( Preferences in human Selection Pg. 1 ). Men compete for elevation
in hierachies, and women tend to favor high-status men ( Symons, 1979;Trivers, 1972). Females don't usually
compete to receive a higher ranking, they usually do to out do someone or something.
There are two subclasses of assortive matting. One of them are Character-specif...
