The Grievances of the Third Estate was the list of ideas that the cahier of the Third Estate sent to the Estates General on how the new Constitution should be drafted. It included the injustices on how the Third Estate was currently being treated, as well as ideas to restore their social standing and rights. The document begins by stating the people's loyalty to the King and then lists the Third Estate's wishes.
             The first section calls for the subjects of the Third Estate to be of equal status to all other citizens of any class. This included a unification of the three estates, with each contributing equally in all parts of the State. This meant the people of the Third Estate could no longer be unfairly arrested or jailed for no apparent reason. Their property could not be seized for any reason, and any form of personal tax was to be outlawed. The only tax the Third Estate wanted to pay was on land or property and they wanted it to be determined by wealth, not class. They also called for taxes on labor to be cut in half or better.
             The rest of the document is divided more specifically into various areas of current injustices the Third Estate were suffering from. The next list of grievances pertains to the government of the nation. The letter called for the court system to be reformed, and for the study of law to be revised in a way that was fair to all citizens, not just those of noble decent. A constitution of some sort was to be drafted and offices were to be elected regardless of class. Also, the people of the Third Estate wanted the military to allow them to enter and thus allow them to gain nobility.
