Indian Music and Culture

Does Music influence you? Many Native Americans areinfluenced by Music in many of there tribes. Almost allNative American Music dancers and singers are characterizedby there different ways of dancing, they types ofinstruments they play and what tribe there from. Some songscome from social and friendship trait. The songs NativeAmericans sing are more personal than others. Accompaniedwith music is always dance. When Natives have war withother tribes they do war songs and dances for a successfulvictory. The Native Americans would come up with theresongs from earlier generations, Like there past time orthere heritage. There ancestors would pass them down fromgeneration to generation. The old Natives took there songsto the heart, and were affended if you made fun of, or ifyou tried to curse a song or dance that the tribe expresses. They instruments that the Natives used were hand madeinstruments. Wooden drums were real popular, it showed agreat deal of stress and hard work. The way they pounded onthe drum expressed the mood or the anger that was shown. The gourd rattles were made by hand, they were made byregular gourds, old ones that they didn't hardly ever use.


the voice of the drum isaffected by how wet the skin is as well as how tightly it ispulled, and by the amount of temperature of the water. it is a bowed instrument made from centuryplank stalk and one or tow horsehair strings. de usually by rocks or beads from therenecklace. Native Americanmusic has influenced me allot since I just learned allotabout it. The drum isa hand made instrument and it expresses the mood the Nativeare in. All of the Nativenations possessed a elaborate, formal ceremonies based upona greed body of sacred myths. The beat of the drum shows the anger in which theyare in and that is shown. The gourd rattles, were alos made by hand, they weremade by regular gourds, old ones that they didn't hardlyever use anymore. From the Flute which shows many different typesof expressions that they show. The Apache tribes use stringed instruments refereed toas a fiddle. Natives use many types of instruments to describe howthey feel and to express there true feelings for each otheror a different tribe they come in contact with. Knowing the different types of music NativeAmericans show and create have helped me feel better aboutthem and the different types of heritage they have againstone another. The different sounds,the beats of the drum and the rhythms. Theywould dress up real fancy and where there head dresses anddifferent types of beaded necklaces that they had gotten forbeing a chief or the leader of the dance as they call it. A varyingamount of water is placed in the drum to affect bothresonance and pitch.
