The Yellow Wallpaper

Often times when someone is sick, a loved one, such as a husband, thinks that they know what is best for that person, even if it is against the wishes of the one who is ill. However, this is not always the best method of treatment, because many times the one who is treating the sick does not spend all day with them to know what they are feeling, doing or thinking. The Yellow Wallpaper is about a woman who is suffering from some sort of illness, probably depression, and her husband does not believe that she is sick. Her husband is a physician, and thinks that a lot of rest, tonics, and phosphates is the best cure for her, however, he seems to consumed in his work to realize the real problem. He does not realize that the fact that keeping her closed up in a room, not taking her own opinions into consideration, and treating her like a child is making her even more ill. He felt that it would be best to let her mind rest. If John were to find out that she was keeping a journal he would not be happy at all. He kept her upstairs in a room with lots of windows, but these windows had bars on them. He was even skeptical about letting some of her family come and visit; he said it could excite her too much. Very often, surrounding have a great deal to do with the progress of some ones health and well being. It is always names of animals, or even little girl. However it was more than that, and due to his ignorance his wife cracked. John also tried to keep her from doing any work at all, this included writing. The husband, John, also thinks this will be good for his wife. His wife did not like this room at all, but John insisted that she stayed up here, and only in this room until she was better. On top of being closed in a room all day, and not allowed any visitors, her husband speaks to her as if she is a little child and does not know what is best for her own good. John's wife tried to tell him that she thought that a little bit of work with some change and excitement would do her good. He felt that it was some sort of ailment that could be cured with pills and tonics.
