Salvador Dali was a famous Spanish painter, sculpter, graphic artist, and designer born on May 11, 1904. Salvador Dali was known for creating many odd, modern paintings.He started painting at age 12 on a summer vacation. When he was nineteen he criticized his teachers and was suspended from art school and thrown into jail for thirty-five days for alleged subversion. By switching to a more tradition style of painting he offended the people that were in his surrealist group. After he changed styles of painting, his work was not as popular as it used to be. Andre was known as a the "school master" of surrealism. After making several traditional Salvador Dali was forced out of Spain by his group. There are museums dedicated to Salvador Dali's works of art located in his hometown of Figueras, Spain. Salvador Dali did many other things but paint and design. He joined him in a group of surreal painters based around Andre Breton. 928 Salvador Dali met Pablo Picasso, another Spanish painter. Salvador Dali also wrote a novel called Hidden Faces in 1944. Until 1965 Gala was extremely important to Salvador Dali; however in 1965 Gala still continued to model in Dali's painting but they were beginning to separate and were seen together less often. Back in 1937 Dali was beginning to fade from his surrealism. Salvador Dali then established a trade mark in his pictures, a melting clock, and a burning giraffe. Dali lived a good but strange life throughout the eighty-four years he lived but died on January 23, 1989.
