Postmillennialism
This paper is focused on one of the three most common viewpoints of the millennium also known as eschatology, which is the study of the last things. To understand this postmillennialism viewpoint, you must have a basic grasp on the other two. Therefore, I have included a short explanation of all three views. I also include definitions of some key words. Then the viewpoint is broken drown into four parts, starting with a historical development, then a theological foundation. Then a redemptive historical flow and then final the scripture that are commonly refer to as exegetical evidence. Premillennialism: The present form of God's kingdom is moving toward a grand climax when Christ will return, the first resurrection will occur and his kingdom will find expression in a literal, visible reign of peace and righteousness on the earth. After the final resurrection, the last judgement and the renewal of the heavens and the earth, this future, temporal kingdom will merge into the eternal kingdom, and the Lord will reign forever on the new earth, (New International Version 1984). Amillennialism: The millennium describes the present reign of the souls of deceased believers with Christ in heaven. The present form of God's kingdom will
Who would not like to see the world turn around and look to the Lord of lords for the answers to their questions, instead of looking to the darkness? Only God knows for sure, and he is not telling, so get to know the one true savor that knows all of the anwsers, Jesus. God's Sovereign Power - Our evangelistic task in God's world should be that God "works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will"(Eph 1:11). God's Creational Purpose - Frequently, Scripture reaffirms God's love of his created order and his ownership claim over all things: "The earth is the Lord's and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it"(Ps24: 1, Gen 1:31, Rom 11:36, Col 1:16). This fits with the postmillennialism view and other ancient creeds affirm this same belief, (Gentry Jr. I did however list the others for future study and reference. " Exegetical Evidence In this section, I only detailed two of the six that are included, do to space and time. Jerusalem expands her borders (Isa 54:1-5) and towers over a plan (Zech 14:10). Theological FoundationsPostmillennialism expects the vast majority of the world's population to convert to Christ because of the Spirit-blessed proclamation of the gospel. The return of Christ will follow the Millennium. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore, (Gentry Jr. I must admit that it would be wonderful if they were right. Historical DevelopmentAncient - The early creed formulations of Christianity provide only some of the basic elements of eschatology. In light of present world conditions, however, many Christians are surprised at the resilience of the postmillennial hope. The swelling river of people urging others to "come, let us go" to the house of God portrays successful evangelism leading to gospel prosperity.
