Being at a young age of 10 and not being told the complete truth about what’s going on and why there are so many Nazi soldiers on each corner of the street is exactly what Annemarie Johansen was going through. It is her Jewish best friend and her family that is getting the worst part of the whole thing. After King Christian X surrendered to the German’s to prevent losing his whole town to war, Ellen Rosen is Annemarie’s best friend. After the Nazi’s starting relocated Jews they took Ellen in as their daughter as her parents were also taken from friends and put in a safe place. After all of Ellen’s family is at Annemarie’s Uncle Henrik’s house they meet again and are being taken to a safe secret spot. This is a quote from an actual young boy that was killed in the Holocaust. In the story, Annemarie had two sisters, one Lise and the other Kirsti. The events that happened and the things that took place in those years was very dramatic. That is the great gift our country hungers for, something every little peasant boy can look forward to, and with pleasure feel he is a part of --- something he can work and fight for. It is very upsetting to think that one man had that much influence over all those people and that he could almost kill an entire group of people like that. It was Annemarie’s responsibility to get it to him in time. He was one of the ones to help the Rosens. She did not know what was in the package all she knew was that she was supposed to go and get it to them. What had Uncle Henrik needed with a handkerchief ? She got herself together again and finally got it to him just about 20 minutes before they came and searched his boat. mportant package that he was supposed to give to Uncle Henrik. She was to go through the dark path by herself and had already gotten to the meadow when 4 Nazi soldiers stopped her. Later during the war Peter, her fiance, was shot by Nazis for helping the Jews hide and escape. It is based on the true historical facts of what happened without actually using real families. Annemarie was 12 and she was very anxious to she her friend.
