Hills Like White Elephants

Ernest Hemingway was one of the most famous and influential writers of the 1900's. Born in 1899 and died the way his Father died Ernest took his own life. Just like the book stated Hemingway was referred to his style as "the heart of subtraction," the taking out of unnecessary elements. I think that's what he did in in the short story "Hills like White Elephants." The story takes place at a train station in Spain. The characters in the story are the American man, the girl and the lady at the bar. To me I think this story has two different meanings. One meaning could be that the girl is pregnant and they're wondering if she should have the baby or not, and the other meaning could be that they're thinking about committing suicide.
In the beginning of the story they went to the bar and ordered drinks and they talked and when she sees the hills she just said they look like white elephants, then they started arguing. They would argue and order drinks. He kept asking her if she would do it and then he told her that they would be fine afterwards. What he was saying was not enough information on what "it" was. Until he said "I've known lots of people that have done it; and afterwards they were all so happy." When he said that I was like maybe he was talking about her having an abortion. When they were arguing you could tell right away that, in a way she wanted to keep the baby and that he didn't. Because he had said to her; "that's the only thing that made us unhappy."
Now when she had mentioned that the hills looked liked white elephants I thought that maybe she was thinking about killing herself. When he said he knew a lot people that didn't and afterwards they were happy. It could of meant that the people that had committed suicide and afterwards they were happy because what ever problems they had before were over.
