To Kill A Mockingbird

There is a lot of prejudice in To Kill A Mockingbird. The disrespect and dislike that whites and blacks have for each other in this period of time in the book was common throughout the south. There was a lot of violence and lying all the time between whites and blacks. You can see this throughout the whole book between Bob Ewell and his dislike of Atticus that comes to involve Scout and Jem. Atticus does not want Scout and Jem to grow up and be like the rest of the people and take part in the disrespect and dislike of the black people. Atticus try’s to show Scout and Jem that the violence between whites and blacks can be stopped. Atticus was to nice to the people who disliked blacks, Bob Ewell is the best example of who has the most disrespect and dislike of blacks in the story. Atticus hopes that putting up with the blacks and also with the whites that are cause most of the problems can help to solve the racial problem in Maycomb.

The main theme in To Kill A Mockingbird was the disrespect and dislike people showed each other by the rumors and ideas that were passed on from generation to generation. These ideas that the people of Maycomb have of each other are not just disrespectful but also the

. . .
Jem and Scout also realized that they were being disrespectful towards Boo without knowing who he really was. At the end of the novel Scout and Jem feel sad because they think they did nothing in return for him. The blacks knew that it was going to happen. I think that this was a good story in showing what happened back then and how it has changed. Dolphus Raymond is considered to be an outcast, because he is a white man who chooses to live with a black woman, and who has children.

When the people of Maycomb received the news of Tom’s death they kept on saying that it was typical, showing how much disrespect that the white people had for the black people by saying that they knew that it was going to happen. One of the biggest examples of disrespect and dislike came in the trial because nobody believed Tom Robinson when he admits he felt sorry for Mayella, this showed how much disrespect and dislike there was between the people of Maycomb. It showed that all it takes is just two kids to realize that what had been going on was wrong. The people of Maycomb have been making all of the stories about him seem like he is a bad and killing person even by making up some of the stories like he poisoned the pecan nuts in the schoolyard, that he ate cats and squirrels raw, he was caught by Miss Crawford staring at her through her window at night, and killing azaleas by breathing on them. Boo Radley is seen as a figure of mystery and fear to both Scout and Jem. The children learn that when he was thirty-three years old he stabbed his father in the leg with a pair of scissors and then was locked in the basement by his father.

People such as Boo Radley, Dolphus Raymond and Maudi Atkinson are sort of the outcasts in Maycomb they do not fit in and are looked at like they are not part of the town. I hope that someone who reads this story feels like I did and try’s to change how they feel. Scout was watching what was going on in the church and comparing it with the church she usually goes to.
