Germany- a political dwarf but an economic giant
"An Economic giant but a political dwarf." This quote by Henry Kissinger has for a long time been rather true in order to describe Germanys place on the world stage. In my Essay I will try to give an outlined summery of the political situation since the reunification of the Country. Furthermore I will mention trough my arguments Germanys weaknesses and disadvantages which made and still make it hard for the country to compete in the race over power and international importance these days. In addition to the political stage I will describe the economic situation in Germany as this is probably the most discussed topic in Germany at the moment. As German national studying and living in Britain I hope I can provide the reader with some background news and facts which are both interesting and imortant. The Germans Parliament's President Wolfgang Thierse once said in a speech that he could "not be able to feel proud of his country's achievements" . This quote is a very good example for the education children receive from their parents and in school, where the history of the third Reich is still a topic which is not very much talked about. Bibliography:J. Under the Cold War pressure the world gained a new shape. For Example, no Country ever has achieved was Germany achieved after the war, in less than fifty years it rose from a totally demolished piece of land to one of the most powerful and in terms of politics most important nations. However, eventually motivated by considerations regarding the upcoming elections, the then social-democrat opposition challenged some delicate attempts of foreign policy's emancipation by appealing to the Constitutional Court in April 1993. This became particularly apparent when the German Parliament had to decide whether or not to engage actively in the NATO's Kosovo campaign. Germany was integrated into the Western hemisphere and particularly in the successful West European group of states, while it becameone of the influential forces in this process - not only to achieve some of its sovereigntyand to proof its future reliability.
