SIngle Parent Families - What the Kids Have to Say

             Subject: The responses gathered when surveying and interviewing people who grew up
             in a single-parent family.
             Audience: Peers in ENC 1102 who may or may not have much knowledge on the chosen
             Purpose: To research my subject further by gathering primary sources which include
             surveys and interviews.
             Place: Durant High School in Plant City, Florida.
             1. How old were you when your family became a single-parent family?
             2. Do you live with your same sex parent?
             3. Do you feel growing up in a single-parent family has put at greater risk of becoming a troubled person? For example: Drug and alcohol use, misbehavior in school. Please explain.
             4. Do you feel that the parent who you grew up with has done a better job of parenting than if both parents had raised you?
             5. Do you feel that if you have grown up with your other parent that your life would be different? How?
             6. How do you think growing up in a single-parent family has made you different than your peers who were raised in a family with both parents?
             7. Do you think that being raised in a single-parent family has had a positive or negative effect on your life? Explain.
             8. Who has been a role model for you? (Example: Parent, grandparent, teacher, friend)
             9. Do you feel that your relationship with your parents is different than if both parents were present?
             A Survey conducted at Durant high school revealed some interesting information about the way children view being raised in a single-parent family. Twenty-five surveys were distributed for completion. The individuals surveyed were between the ages of fourteen and eighteen. Each of them attends high school in Plant City, Florida.
