Zeus
Zeus is known as the supreme ruler of both gods and men, as we can see is depicted in both the Iliad and Prometheus Bond. Each story shows a different perspective as to how the immortals view Zeus, and how Zeus views both the immortals and men. For instance, the daughters of Oceanus feared that Zeus would hear Prometheus talking bad of Zeus. Also we see that the gods are always betrayed as going against Zeus’ orders behind his back, but no matter what the case, Zeus always finds out about it. Both stories are similar in the way that either way there are immortals that are against Zeus, and immortals that follow him all the way and never turn against him or talk badly about him. This is where the stories start to differ. In the Iliad, nothing is done to the gods or goddesses that go against Zeus. On the other hand, in Prometheus Bond, we see Zeus as being very strict and punishing those who go against him. For instance, not only Prometheus, but also Atlas are both punished for going against Zeus, and doing what they believed was right. . . .
Then in the Iliad it shows that the humans that have favor with the immortals are the ones that get blessed or helped out in the end. Even though Prometheus said that Zeus was on the thrown because of Prometheus changing sides and helping out Zeus. Although many of Zeus’ enemies are locked up or being punished somehow, the Titans and Kronos and the rest of his followers, he still has enemy’s that do not just come out and announce it. Either way except for Prometheus, who is a Titan, all of the other immortals in both stories fear Zeus very much. He did punish Prometheus for stealing the fire and betraying Zeus, but at the same time Zeus was not just when he left the humans as the lowest on the food chain. Even though each story has its own specifics for the characteristics of Zeus, they both agree that he is on the thrown and ruling without any threats at this point. In the Iliad there is still a little bit of tension between the immortals, especially Poseidon and Zeus. Then in return he was punished by being bound to a rock in a secluded area where an eagle shall tear out his liver everyday until he is freed. For instance, Hera is very close to Zeus and her jealousy of him cheating on her all the time gets her to do things against him and out of his favor. Zeus in both stories has been portrayed as the most powerful and supreme being out of the immortals and mortals. This is portrayed as the immortals helped the Greeks out in the battle with the Trojans. Even though Zeus keeps doing this, he is still perceived as the Supreme Being. It puts a state of fear in their lives not to do anything against the immortals. Also it could just be that the immortals were going against Zeus out of spite. Poseidon sees himself as Zeus’ equal and believes that he does not have to listen to any of Zeus’ commands.
