Mesopotamian Civilizations and their technologies
Many things that we have today were originally thought of back during the time of the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia. Things like the government system, writing and technology underwent major change during that time. Mesopotamian civilizations flourished because of the discoveries and inventions that were made. There were great changes made in the government and justice system in Mesopotamian civilizations that allowed them to thrive. During the Babylonian civilization, King Hammurabi created a code of laws. He had scribes carve into tablets around 262 different laws. He was the one who created the theory that the punishment should fit the crime. These laws were categorized under many different headings, for example property and provided the society structure and order. These advantages allowed for major growth of the civilizations. The invention of writing helped the civilizations to grow and prosper. Also, irrigation systems and canals were created. Also, through a series of canals, people could direct water to places that needed it. Also, they could make better and more powerful weapons. Writing provided a universal means of communication to the people of the society which allowed them to develop. This made the task of transporting things from one place to another much faster and easier. By having iron as a material, they were able to make more efficient tools and weapons. Crops were able to get a steady supply of water and therefore were much healthier and bountiful. Writing provided a form of entertainment for these societies; for example the Epic of Gilgamesh, which is one of the first "novels". They could now have a proficient means of defence in battle as they could craft shields. Although it took a while to perfect the wheel, the invention of it changed the way that people worked and fought. Mesopotamian civilizations made numerous advances in all areas of life. The tools were sturdier and could accomplish harder tasks.
