Who are the heroes of today? How is the word hero used to describe
certain people? People such as Sadem Hussian, Fidel Castro, and Osama bin
Laden, and at the same time being used to describe people such as Jesus
Christ, Mother Theresa, and the New York Firefighters and policemen. The
word "Hero" has been used a great deal in the news, sometimes rather
loosely. Webster's Dictionary defines the word hero as: a man admired for
his achievements and noble qualities; one who shows great courage; an object
of extreme admiration and devotion.
A hero, to me , is not just someone with great strength or courage, it
can be someone that offers a helping hand, or some one who offers some
good advice or a simple smile. Today people view certain people as heroes
that others view as something less. For example Osama bin Laden, the people
of his country view him as a hero and the people of the US and some other
countries see him as a threat and a terrorist.
I believe that true heroism comes from within. I doubt any of the people
that went into the collapsing buildings on that unforgettable day even
thought twice about it, they just did it. Just like people that help others
they don't think about it they just do it. I think that true heroes have good
morals ethics and a positive attitude.
The word hero has been used a great deal in the news sometimes rather
loosely, and if the news of today would step back and think about what a
hero really is and focus on the good maybe they could make a difference.
