Danger,Dissillusion in policing

In this book review, I will be discussing the culture of police in the L.A.P.D. I willbe discussing the topics on how the culture influences officers in the organization, andhow lifestyles of the officer has changed in several ways. In the book, it decribes theculture prospective on the stages officers go through and adapt to. The L.A.P.D. isderived of many officers whom are associated with one another. Traditional and newpolicing has intertwined to make the culture progress. Traditional officers may perceivenew officers in formal or informal training. Conception of traditional ways are differentthan the new ways of policing. Traditional officers, having higher status, can make animpact on the danger, authority, and efficiency on the culture. Socializing between eachgroup draws a strong family among the culture. Officers can gain their role by socializingand raising their quality among the culture. By interchanging social aspects, officers dodevelop certain police solidarity and change through phases in their career. The phasesstart on their first day of academy and finishes at retirement. Although, many officers donot make it through the academy or reach retirement. Many feelings and hardships among


Injuries can be due to stress and reinjuring old injuries. Danger can be more than just physical;psychological, economical, and outside socialization are factors to consider. Danger, authority, and efficiency are very important roles in the L. Being on the job, all the time, produceshard times for family life and most often leads to divorce. Officers may be moving from a stable environmentwhere high stress and socializing is not a key part of culture. Showing less role in the culture can provide negativeoutlooks or lack of confidence in new officers. The stress levels play a key role on the outlook of the culture. e culture are derived from the phases, but I will not go into depth emphasizing on each. The close relationships between each group of the L. Thisstrategy gives the officers a chance to look outside their career. Without strong leadership andencouragement officers might not complete their dark days on duty. Avoiding or handling situations, by not coming in the way of danger, showsstrong efficiency within the culture.
