Drunk Driving

             Did you know each year students spend 5.5 billion dollars on alcohol? That is more than they spend on soft drinks, milk, juice, coffee, tea, and books combined! A lot of these students will get in a car. This often results in drunk driving crashes that kill or injure many people. In fact, eight young people each day die from alcohol related crashes. These statistics on youth alcohol consumption these days are scary. Drunk driving and alcohol have very bad effects on many people's lives. A lot of things have been done to prevent it, but we need to do more to totally prevent drunk driving.
             The problem with drunk driving is that so many people get killed or injured each year. Every one out of two hundred fifty babies born this day will die in a drunk driving accident. Someone like you could die in a crash any day. The medical expenses are very high and many families cannot afford them. Many people's emotions are hurt, too. Think about all of the innocent people in the world that have to die in drunk driving crashes just because the other person was drunk. It is sad to think of their families and how they felt.
             Another problem with alcohol is buying alcoholic products wastes money that could be used in much better ways. White males drink much more than any other group, with an average of over 9 drinks per week. Hispanic males follow with 5.8 drinks per week. White females drink 4 drinks per week, and block males consume 3.6 drinks each week. Black females average only one drink per week. As mention above, it is not just the grown-ups wasting money. A lot of kids are wasting money because they like alcohol just as much.
             People should be more aware of drunk driving. If you see a drunk driver, do not be afraid to pull of the side of the road. You may have just saved your own life.
