Entering the Frost

Time is the true teller of a writing master. Surviving the test of time is a challenge overcome by few. Robert Frost is one of the few poets to survive this almost insurmountable challenge. "The Road Not Taken" is perhaps the most well known poem in America. The poem is a living testament to Frost's writing skills. However, there are some who question Frost's greatness, claiming there were possibilities and opportunities, which were passed up because Frost was not as heavily critiqued as fellow poets and writers of his time. "The Road Not Taken" is one of the poems that made Frost a poetical genius. "What ultimately makes Frost's best poems valuable is their dynamic view of our daily life," according to Robert Johnson (2). This could not be better illustrated than in "The Road Not Taken." However, there are other reasons why Frost was truly a poetical artist. For one, Frost was great because he never attached himself to any of the great move

" The two roads that part in the wood represent a critical choice between two ways of life (Ogilvie 3). Time has been the ultimate testament to Frost's poetry, as he had withstood its engulfing grasp. "The visible sign of Frost's preoccupation. Studying Frost's strength and weakness, is a blessing we all can learn from. Frost put these moments in our lives in words and images we can all see and understand. "It is the surface simplicity of his (Frost's) poetry which has enabled so many different critics to impose their idea(s) of what he is upon his work," said Jennings (2). ments of his time such as the Georgian movement towards nature (Jennings 1). We all face darkness and choices which forever change our lives. These unsuccessful poems may have had the potential for greater fame had they gone through an editing process. One of the greatest questions revolving around Frost is if he could have been even greater through the editing process. This is represented by Frost's choice in the poem, to take the road less traveled. Frost's poetry often carries a similar image or symbol. "The Road Not Taken" is a poem that had made has passed the test of time and shall do so forever.
