Key West
Imagine yourself in a whole New World and what that might feel like. One would not have to go far to find out. Snorkeling in the ocean is just like going to a brand new planet, that humans have never set foot on. The coral reefs of the Florida Keys are one of the best places to experience this underwater world, of excitement. Key West, Florida is 195 miles south of Miami. It is a 30-minute flight across the ocean, in a small passenger plane. Another way of getting there is by driving the 159 miles across the Seven-mile Bridge to the famous zero mile marker of Key West. Key West is the southern most point of Florida; it is 90 miles from Cuba. Key West is a beautiful island, with crystal clear waters that are like blue glass. However, it is not known for having beautiful beaches, for the simple fact that there are not any real beaches there. The only beaches are the small man made ones which the hotels have made. The whole island of Key West is built on top of a great coral reef, which had grown over thousands of years till it reached the ocean’s surface. It was as if I was looking through blue tinted glasses. Everywhere I looked there was something new and exciting to see. Snorkeling in the coral reef off the coast of Key West was one of the greatest experiences I have ever had. Therefore, Key West is one of the prime places for great snorkeling. When the sun shined through the water their colors reflected rainbow like prisms. Everyone was on the boat looked as if they were a bunch of drunken sailors, until they got their sea legs. The Ocean is a world within our world. The boat started to rock back and forth; I was so worried I would get seasick. Then I panicked, till I remembered that I had a snorkel and I could breath instead of trying to drown myself. It was beautiful; everything had a turquoise blue cast to it. It was such a nature rush, with all of the fear and excitement. I even saw a shark swimming below me and I was so fascinated by it I forgot to be scared. Then when it came time for me to take the plunge into the watery abyss, a sudden fear came over me. I could see strait to the bottom of the ocean floor. It was hard to stand up and walk around without stumbling.
