The Priest Sex Scandal

One of the most riveting and eye-opening issues that has shocked the nation and subsequently the world over the past few months have been the sex scandals that rock the world of priests. Not to say that this is a new problem and everyone is eating up the juicy details, but there is recognition, through past accusations and the dates of when the accusations that are being presented currently, that this has been an ongoing problem for years. The reason that this is gaining so much attention recently is the fact that victims are refusing to keep quiet and want to publicize the wrongdoing of their pastors and allow the world to see that the Catholic Church cannot continue to allow scandals to be covered up. The Catholic Church is one of the premier organizations that for centuries have placed themselves on such a high pedestal that a blow, such as these allegations of sex scandal, has dented their pristine image (although one questions just how pristine that image is). In collecting the NUMEROUS articles that have come out in the past few months, each one attempts to further explore the 'behind-the-scenes' action of the Catholic Church. Although, it cannot be looked past that the number one problem is the fact that these s

This idea has been evident in Boston, where the majority of the scandal lays (for now). " He went further to reiterate that these scandals are a wakeup call for the Church. It is no big surprise that the Catholic Church is not a democracy. The Church chooses to blame the problem on individual people and pathologies. The cardinal in Boston, Cardinal Law has been at the center of attention, for covering up the scandals and publicly denouncing that the problem is in the Church, but instead in individuals, homosexuality, etc. Someone needs to drill into the minds of the Catholic Church that they are not supreme law, and that illegal actions require legal consequences. Instead, it is a lifelong job that you must fully commit yourself to. Since when does the Catholic Church have supreme law over illegal actions? The fact that these priests were sexually abusing innocent, unknowing children showed that these men had problems, yet they were committing illegal acts. Who are they to govern the law? As the story unfolds, one wonders. " The next minute they are saying the United States, itself, is to blame because as a country, we are probably the most immoral. However, our friend Cardinal Law took that idea a step further and likened the situation in the church "to last year's September 11th tragedy, a crisis which shocks the heart and soul and which must spark immediate and decisive changes in order to prevent possible recurrence in the future. They feel that the tendency to homosexuality is a disorder, not a sin, but the practice of homosexuality is truly sinful. Some can be considered to recognize the problem, because they sent the troubled priests to therapy for this problem, but then reassigned these priests to new parishes to make the problem go away The problem not only lies within the individual, because they are suffering from a sickness, but it also lies within the Church for allowing the same thinking and law to govern them. Their feelings that they were handling the problem internally, is absurd. For a man to be so involved in his religion that his thinkings are based on what was laid down centuries ago, the man himself has to be questioned on his own mental health.
