Indian Parenting

Indian parents have rules and regulations on the way that their kids are being raised. They only let them have certain things like Americans, yet they want them to grow up with strong Indian ways. I know that is the way that my parents act about me. I know a lot of other children that feel the same way. There are so many things those Indian adults that expect their kids to do what they did back when they were in India.During the summer time every one is wearing shorts and skirts and sleeveless shirts. It is also okay for the Indian males to wear them. At times I have noticed that a lot of the women that are married or are daughters to these types of men wear those types of clothing when they are not around. Which defeats the purpose of them saying that they cannot wear certain types of clothes. There are a lot of the mothers who feel that showing so much skin is bad also. Yet their daughters still do it when they are not looking. When moving from India to America there were some rules and regulations that should be brought here also but when having such a dispute over certain types of clothing? Kicking a child out of her home because she wore a skirt is just preposterous.

They don't realize that women are now going to school and working mom's and do have other things on their minds then keeping their husbands happy. They are very strict about who there children hang out with. I can't say that for all Indian marriage's that are arranged because some do last happily. To look like your mother is a great thing, but some girls just have facial hair that should not be there, but the parents just don't understand that and they think its ok. I know my parents were like that at one time but I have helped to make them a lot better on understanding where we are coming from and how they need to understand what we go through having to be Indians in America. But the mothers and fathers of these boys do not understand what school is like for their sons, to have to grow up with the name calling and teasing from the other kids. Lots of the East Indian guys have to keep their hair because of the religious aspect. Most marriages that are arranged normally end in a divorce because the other partner is from out of the country and only wants to get married to get a visa to come to America. They need to realize what time of the century it is and what country they are now in. Most of the time this is pointed upon the girl of the relationship. They do not like their kids hanging out with other races, but they also don't want their kids hanging out to much with Indian kids because they think that when too many of them get together they cause trouble. Lots of parents have issues with the way that their children do their hair and makeup. Talking is one thing but sitting down and having lunch is so another. Lots of the adults think that they will always work because if they can survive without having divorces then so can their child.
