The Life Story of Reckless Driving

             Unless you learn from my mistakes, driving can kill you, just as it did to my friend, and almost me.
             Heidi Lynn Tews, my best friend, had just gotten her license. I would be able to get mine in less than one year. We both had gone out, and bought our own cars, Heidi got a 1979 Chevy Camaro, and I got a 1990 Lincoln Continental. Both were shiny white, smooth, and had their own distinctive "new car smell". I modified the exhaust on both of them afterward, and when the engines were running you'd swear you were at the raceway. Her and I became cocky, and careless.
             Heidi's parents even gave us thirty minute a lecture. "This shit isn't a joke, and if you treat it like you have been you will pay!" said Peg (Heidi's mom).
             "What could happen? You just worry too much." Heidi and I said.
             "You're damn right we're fu**in' worrying. You're gonna' get your dumb asses arrested, or killed!" Jack (Heidi's dad) screamed, "Or worse, you'll kill someone else."
             We just shrugged our shoulders, looked at each other, and said, "We couldn't get hurt like that."
             So, a couple of days later, we received a party invitation. Because it was in Bemidji, we would need to raise some cash, in the next couple of weeks. Heidi's parents also said, "No insurance, no go." Therefore, we worked like dogs, collected old debts from friends, and had a yard sale. After two weeks we had raised enough. Heidi's parents decided since her and I worked so hard, and we only had three days left, we could piggyback their insurance.
             Then, the night before the party, we got another "fun-filled" lecture, from her parents.
             "Remember what I told you before?" Peg barked.
             I said sarcastically, "Blah blah, yada yada, car crash, kiss a baby, and we're out."
