Poems
I am going to compare two nineteenth century poems and see their contrasts and their similarities:'Porphyria's Lover' is all about love, death and jealousy. It starts with descriptions about the weather, laying out the settings and mood of the night. What happens, is that the narrator, is in love with a lady called Porphyria, and wants to be with her forever, except that she has wealthy friends which she would rather spend her time with and him.He jets jealous by this, but has to do something about it, so the only option he chooses to think of, is to kill her.He chooses the exact right time to do it aswell. Just when Porphyria looks into his eyes, shows her love for him through her facial expressions, or body language, he kills her but strangling her. Then that last moment when she felt that way about him, that moment would last forever, and would never go away, well that's what he thought at least, and he knew that she could never changer her mind about she felt towards him again, or let her love she had for him, disappear. For some reason he felt good about this, because he must have been thinking 'if I can not have her, then no one will'.'The Sisters' is also, about love, death and J
"Which means she has been waiting to get his love for along time, but had to plan out to kill her sister first and then get to him. WealthBoth the poems have something to do with wealth. And laid him at his mother's feet, this probably means that she put in a graveyard where his mother rested too. JealousyBoth of these poems are mainly about Jealousy. StructureThe structures are different in each poems as in 'The Sisters' each paragraph or verse has 6 lines, whereas in 'Porphyria's Lover' most of the verses or Paragraphs have only 4 lines in each of them. WeatherThe weather is important in each of the poems as it sets the scene and the mood for the rest of what you are about to read. We can tell this by the words that they use, and that they are both nineteenth century poems to start off with. Then when it comes to the murders, the wind is more aggressive and forceful. ealousy, but it mainly focuses on the jealousy part, as there were two sisters from one family. If Porphyria didn't have any wealthy friends to favour over, then the narrator would not of killed her and be jelous, and if the Sister, had not of had the Earl, then the other sister, would not have killed her out of spite and envy. The spur of the moment on was 'Porhyria's Lover' as here is a quotation to back this up-"Made my heart swell, and still it grew, while I debated what to do. "There may be a suggestion that the lover had given Porphyria an ultimatum, between him, and her friends; And later on in the poem suggests that she chose her friends. But the force making him want to kill her, obviously won and he strangled her to death. We know that the narrator of 'Porphyria's Lover' is jealous of her because he does not want her to be around her wealthy friends, as she would choose her friends over him any day.
