Perfect Paradise
As Aaron rode home from his duty of accounting, he sat back on the sky-tram and thought about what his next week's duty would be. In Paradise, work, or a job, was not an aspect of life. All citizens - man or woman over the age of eighteen was sent into training to learn and perform different duties to keep the island going. Aaron was on his fourth level of training, he had decided that he would not continue on to the fifth or sixth level. Aaron had no desire to learn to be a doctor or scientist, which were a couple of duties taught at those levels. At each level the islanders are taught at least three and up to seven duties, depending on each individual's preference. Next week, Aaron's duty would be in the finance department at the diamond management center. It would be seven hour shifts instead of the normal six hour shifts, but he actually did not mind. The only aspect of the financing duty that Aaron did not like was that he would have to ride an extra twenty minutes a day on the sky-tram, but at least he would have a friend to ride with there. His friend, Andy, also worked at the diamond management center. Andy was working in the lawn and landscaping duties this week, but next week he would be working in
Aaron's parents often watch Tyler while Jessica and Aaron are at work. Brandon, Aaron's neighbor, could have had a longer punishment but it was just his first offense. They agree that the number one moral is that life is precious and murder should not occur. They just sat back on the ride home and admired the tropical beauty of Paradise and its beautiful weather. Any small petty crimes or small theft cases are usually handled by taking away the offenders privilege of receiving wants and desires from the Diamond Management Center for a certain period of time depending on how many offenses and the severity of the crime. The islanders give a great deal of trust to the government. Within each level of duty training groups, islanders take turns each year representing each level. The islanders are taught during their basic education about each different religion and have the choice of following which religion that they feel a connection with. Then they continue their education in the duty training levels. Jessica informed Aaron that a new sail had come for their sailboat. No one gets paid for any duty that they do. Paradise was the result of an underwater earthquake that took place one hundred years ago. Planes were permitted though for the imports and exports to the island and boats for the pleasure of the Brooks 2islanders. Embezzlement of diamonds from any of the mines or from the Diamond Center is automatic removal from the Brooks 4island, this is a very serious offense and will not be tolerated. Aaron put away the fruits and vegetables into the ever-fresh bin in the refrigerator.
