Zoo Paper

On my visit to the Zoo their were many interesting animals that grabbed my attention. The first animal was the Black Necked Swan which is also known by its scientific name Cygnus Melan Coryphus. This bird appeared to be very comfortable in its new environment at the Zoo. Their were two of these magnificent birds for me to observe. Both of them had snow white bottoms, with dark black necks and a red orange colored bill. The male swan is known as a cob and the female a pen, the males are usually a bit larger than the females. The areas of origin are in open lakes and marsh lands in the Southern parts of South America, including Chile, Argentina, and Falkland Islands. The black necked swan feeds on Aquatic plants in the zoo, and as wild swan they typically feed on vegetation, insects, and fish spawn. The black necked swan is not in any danger of being extinct. The swans seem to some how stay close to each other and their behavior was calm. I find the black neck on the swan to be very interesting, I had never known of a black necked swan until my recent visit to the zoo. The swan's neck was very long it seems at times to wrap around the bottom of its body, as it dives its head into the pond.

The gracefulness and common behavior makes it one of my top birds to purchase and put into a private pond. There was one that was much larger than the others, which must have been the male. It almost seem to be that he was showing off for his on looker. Also the Grevy's, Mountain such as the Cape Mountains and Hartmann's. These mammals are great swimmers, once on a High School trip I was able to observe them swimming along side the boat. But as I observed it made the sea lions work for their meal, similar two the way that they would have to work and fight for a meal if they were still in the sea. Sea lions are noted to swim up to ten miles per hour when chasing food. If they are attack zebras are known to kick with the hind legs or front legs, as well as biting with the teeth. While the predators are Orcas, great white sharks, and humans. There diet consists of lots of fish, mollusks, and crustaceans. Maybe it is due to the fact that they are not working animals, nor a good source of food supply to the common man. The strips of the zebra are also another way that the zebra can protect its self from predators. The Scientific name for the sea lion is Zalophus, mostly found in California this water bound mammal can also be found around the Galapagos Islands and Japan. I took a poll and ask a number of my friend how much information did they know about zebras.
