Evolution of a Democracy

As citizens of the United States, we are privileged to live in a democratic society. The struggle between church and state is what later fueled the changes in government throughout the Middle Ages. Imperial ideologies were cited as justification of aggression. Mesopotomian societies thrived under imperial systems of government until around 1200 B. prevail in negating the power and influence of Iraq and its allies. The Romans also coupled religious doctrine with the expansion of their empire, spreading Christianity and elevating the power of the Roman Catholic Church. It is interesting to note that Iraq, an area which played a significant role in early history, continues to have an impact on the evolution of world governments to this day. The reintroduction of ideals such as equality and freedom created resistance for monarchists.
