Emile durkheim

             Emile Durkheim was a French sociologist and was indeed a man of many great works. He is considered to be the father of sociology due to the fact that throughout his lifetime he carried out many sociological studies such as religion, suicide, the division of labor, and all the other aspects of a society. He believes that sociology was a branch of science therefore; all the functions have to work together in order for society to survive just like a biological organism has its all parts working together in order to survive.
             His work is mainly emphasized on the fact that it is society that surrounds and influences an individual's behavior rather then an individual's behavior being influenced biologically. Overall, he wanted to prove that all people work together and society influences most of their actions. In his observations, Emile Durkheim used social facts of various groups of people that consisted mainly on a persons actions, thoughts, and feelings.
             The theory that best connects to the work of Emile Durkheim is the theory of functionalism. Various parts of a society have to come together and reinforce each other in order for it to work. Emile Durkheim believed that in order for a society to function there has to be crime. He also states that crime in a society is considered to be normal due to the fact that crime is found in all societies. He believes that humans realize the punishments for the crimes committed. The non-criminal population punishes the criminals and realizes not cause any crimes because they too will be punished. Therefore, the non-criminal population learns from the criminals' mistake. This sort of action causes a society to have a boundary of human behavior which separates the deviant individuals (criminals) who break norms from those and the non-criminals who follow social order.
