Euthanasia; the right way out
When Michael was thirteen, his grandmother was diagnosed with a disease called Alzheimer's. This disease made her mind unable to function normally, which caused her to lose her ability to think clearly and remember things. Soon after she was diagnosed, she moved into a nursing home. Every Sunday after church, Michael and his family would go to the nursing home to visit her. Week by week, his grandmother seemed less aware of what was going on. It seemed as though she did not even notice that they were there to visit her. Michael soon became discouraged. "Why do we have to visit her every week? By the next day she will probably have forgotten that we were even there". Michael began to think more and more about his grandmother. "If she doesn't know what is going on anyway, wouldn't she just be happier in heaven? Isn't there some sort of way to get her to heaven sooner?" Michael's mother explained to him that sending grandma to heaven now may be the easiest thing to do, but as Christians, it is wrong.Euthanasia is one of the most controversial and emotions issues of today. God created everyone exactly how He wanted them to be. make the painful sight of the elderly in misery disappear is to end life. Everyone's life serves some type of purpose. Humans should honor God with their bodies. Budziszewski, an associate professor in the departments of government and philosophy at the University of Texas at Austin says, "Killing the suffering may well be the cheapest and the easiest way of making the painful sights go away" (15). She flipped a switch that released thiopental, a sleep drug. A man has the right to preserve and prolong it, but not the right willfully to destroy it. This world is filled with many incurable and deadly diseases. One year before her death, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
