Antigone’s role in the kingdom of Thebes also contributes to the fact that she is the tragic heroine.
With the defiance of laws and stubbornness, Antigone has brought a death that is undeserved, which makes the audiences arouses pity for such characters. Her crime will not allow her to marry the man she loves, Haimon. Antigone, towards her death, regrets her decision and therefore it makes her the tragic heroine. Others are afraid of Creon; hence, they do not dare to defy his laws. Antigone loves her brothers so much that she is willing to disobey the King’s laws knowing the consequence is death. Antigone’s decision to bury her brother gives her a criminal status. With Antigone’s role in society, death is not a factor but somehow it happens, makes the audiences fearful of their own destinies. Antigone exclaims that she is not fearful of death but rather wishes death upon her than leaving her brother unburied.
Antigone’s love for her brothers, and the decision that she has made to prove that love, also adds to her tragic flaws. She buries her brother so his soul will have a resting place.
