Blue Collar and Buddha

             The film directed by Taggart Siegel specifically deals with racism that Indochinese people were facing and their brief life sketches in Rockford. There have been several attacks against Indochinese community by setting up pipe bombs in Buddhist temple, which was a place where the refugees gathered. The white people did not like Asians mainly because they believed that their jobs were taken away because of the Asians, yet government and church organizations were supporting them. Asian were not only thought to take over their jobs but they were also believe to be not paying any taxes yet live in better houses and own fine cars.
             In early 1900's, diverse group of immigrants came to the United States, and the ethnicity were starting to get mixed up among Italians, Swedish, and German. Rockford was thought to be a good place to live until it was hit with depression in 1977 to 1978, which resulted in an increase of unemployment. And since then the economy has been bad, and the blame has been put on Asians.
             When Indochinese people started building Buddhist temple and putting fence around the temple, their neighbors did not really know what was going on inside the temple. The community that existed inside the temple were nice and quiet, thus no one really paid any attentions. However, Indochinese people wanted their neighbors to know why they came to the United States. Misunderstanding and a lack of knowledge about Indochinese people must had existed among white people because there was some kind of attack at the Buddhist temple every national holiday, such as 4th of July and Labor Day. Although the attacks persisted over a period of time, neither sheriffs nor Buddhist showed too much interest trying to solve the problem by not investigating the incidents thoroughly on sheriff's part, and not talking about crime too much on Buddhist part.
