To Kill A Mockingbird

The novel To Kill A Mocking Bird by Harper Lee is the story of Jem and scout Finch and their childhood in the small town of Maycomb, Alabama. The title To Kill a Mockingbird has a thematic significance throughout the story. The characters, Tom Robinson, Boo Radley, and Atticus Finch portray "mockingbirds" who "don't do anything but sing their hearts out and give to make life better for others".

Because Tom is a good person tries not to be ugly to Mayella because in a way he respected her. Tom Robinson is an all around good person and is trying to do good by helping Mayella and to prosecute him would be like shooting a mockingbird.
