The Transpersonal Paradigm

This paradigm deals with the extra personal and those experiences that patients have related that have been outside their own personal or ego. These experiences are vast and in many cases, quite bizarre. They make up a large portion of the phenomena encountered when dealing with the unknown realms of the human psyche. This first section of the Transpersonal Paradigm will be introduced as Temporal Expansions of Consciousness. This phenomenon consists of those experiences that transcend the traditional human ability to comprehend time. The first section in this area is noted as "Ancestral Experiences"."This category of transpersonal experiences is characterized by a strong sense of regression in historical time...The individual feels that his memory has transcended its usual limits and that he is in touch with information related to the life of his biological ancestors. Sometimes, such experiences are related to comparatively recent history...In an extreme form however, they can reach back many generations or even centuries. In general, the content of these phenomena is always compatible with the individual's racial background and cultural history." (Realms of the Human Unconscious 162) Examples of this phenomenon are such as a

I experienced my genitals in the most intimate way, with all the nuances of these birthing activities associated with profound visceral understanding of how whales give birth. However, this time it had a different quality than the previous episodes. This Grof is very careful in his describing of such phenomena, and notes that even persons with no religious beliefs and little or no understanding of the concepts of reincarnation are apt to have such experiences. Clairvoyance and Clairaudience are cases where the patient feels that they can literally project their senses beyond normal means and experience things outside their normal human capability to do so. A new, gigantic body image started to form out of the primordial connection to the other large bodies around me and I realized I had become one of them. The subjects feeling of being able to make the free decisions of what they wish to visit and what they want to encounter is what makes the instance definably different from that of uncontrollably living past episodes from childhood or other such experiences. Her description of the house exactly matched Nadja's reliving, including the porch and the steps leading up on to it, and the dress she wore, covered with starch white pinafores. Precognition, Clairvoyance, Clairaudience and Time Travels are the last phenomena in this are of Temporal Expansions of Consciousness. She described feeling scared, nervous and very alone, she was very afraid of getting her white dress dirty for her mother was very critical of her. Inside my belly I sensed another life form and knew it was my baby. The most commonly encountered objects of identification are mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish, though this is not what they are restricted to. These scenes as described by patients can be experienced in the role of an observer, but more frequently, the subject identifies with one representative of the culture involved or any number of them. A variety of sensations and feelings that were alien and definitely not human imperceptibly took over my consciousness. There was no doubt in my mind that I was a pregnant whale cow. Knowing that her mother would disapprove of the use of LSD, Nadja told her that she experienced this in a dream.
