The Luddites
Technology is one of the greatest inventions that man had come up with. I think that many believe the same way and at the same time have changed many people's lives. With our generation I can honestly say that we cant live without present time technologies. For starters, how would an average teenager react if all appliances that play any type of music were to be taken off the market and destroyed? Probably an uprising would occur and much protest would take place on the streets. Or how about if all television sets were to be taken off the market and destroyed. No more television to watch and entertain us. Now that attracts a little more bigger crowd, including all people that are in the media and entertainment business, actors of all kinds, directors, screen writers, producers, and the most scariest of all, the people that use all of need these people and things for entertainment. The point I am trying to get to be that no one is used to Immediate change in his or her life. If these types of changes were to occur in our life, not to many people would be happy and start to riot on the people who are responsible. That's what the Luddites were mad about when the first technological inventions were
So basically, in my mind there are two ways of looking at Luddism. The present time Luddites come together in meetings and argue within each other about issues they don't feel comfortable about and go out and protest about it. These days people are very lazy and need convenient things to help them live life. The people reacted to the change as if they wouldn't need technology in their life. The government couldn't stop the acts of these people so they looked for the legislation to help them calm the people down. There isn't a specific type of group of people that would be against Luddism as a organization or a club of some sort. The movement continued for approximately five more years before it came to an end in 1816. Although damage was done to these cities and factories, a person had one of two reasons for performing such acts, first was the unemployment rate and second was the decrees in workers wages. The theory states, "people come together because of their shared concern about the inability of society to operate as they believe it should. That's what happened with the Luddite movement. As said in the New Luddite, one issue that was brought up in a meeting was the importance of the use of computers and television sets. Microsoft is a company that makes billions of dollars yearly and if protests were to occur, Microsoft could go down, and even the slightest decrees could be a problem for a corporation in their position.
