Down Syndrome

Introduction: Have you ever wondered or questioned the disorder of Down Syndrome? Well, if not, it is a genetic chromosomal disorder that affects both the physical and mental development. According to many National Down Syndrome Society's with the United States, Down Syndrome occurs 1 out of 800 births. It is the most frequent form of mental retardation and is characterized by well-defined events and distinctive features. However there are certain, genetically associated reasons, which are the cause of this disorder. And they are because of the following reasons.Causes: The most common cause of Down syndrome occurs when an infant is born with three, rather than two, copies of the 21st chromosome (known medically as trisomy 21). Normally there are 46 chromosomes (23 pairs), half of which are inherited from each parent. Children with Down syndrome, however, have cells that usually contain not 46, but 47 chromosomes, the extra one being a third chromosome 21. It is this extra genetic material in infants with Down syndrome that disrupts their physical and cognitive development. Why Down syndrome occurs is a mystery. It can happen to anyone. Scientists do know that women ages 35 and older have a significantly i

In the past, children with Down syndrome were often institutionalized but this is almost never necessary with the proper support. Certain physical and mental characteristics that they are born with, that are caused with the unbalanced number of chromosomes. At home, in school, and in the community, a functional understandable communication system facilitates relationships. To show each other love, and from that love is what you build on. It takes time to learn to cope and there are many support services in the community to help you. This would make this healing process, much easier. So as you can see from my research, Down Syndrome is a disability that occurs without any wrongdoing from either or both parents, it is something that occurs genetically during the pregnancy. Children with Down syndrome know whether they are loved or rejected by their parents. In some cases, parents will also need genetic testing. However, what you need throughout this first time period, is support from the ones that you love, especially your child with DS. However, what people must remember, is that this disorder happens more often, to woman with an age of 38 or older, yet, it happens the same amount for young woman, because of the fact that younger woman have more children. For example, Communication skills are important and contribute to inclusion and integration. Treatment: There is no treatment or cure to prevent or to get rid of this disorder, however there are ways to treat it.
