Pyschology

The question of whether it is right to have random drug testing in public schools or not is a very controversial issue. The main issues with this is whether or not it is an invasion of privacy or an issue of unreasonable search and seizure. In school the students have enough stress and other things that are going on to worry about random drug tests. The money this would cost could be put to many other places in the education department. The idea of random drug testing in public schools is an outrageous and foolish notion in my opinion. One of the most important issues with the question of drug testing in public schools is if it's an invasion of privacy or not. To most people this would be a clear case of invasion of privacy. The question of whether or not a student is taking any type of illegal drug should be the responsibility of the students parents or guardian, not the schools. The only exception that I could see would be if there was a case where they thought that the student was having erratic or dangerous behavior. Students at public schools these days already feel like they don't have any privacy with cameras in classrooms and buses and the arrival of more cops. Adding drug testing to these other factors wo

This money and the money coming out the citizens pockets in our communities does not need to be going to pay for drug tests it needs to be going towards getting our students better educations. I mean what reason could you possibly have in giving a honor roll student who is active in many different school activities a drug test, or the cheerleader who was the homecoming queen. One of the more economical issues would be where the money for the testings would come from because drug test are not all that cheap. If a student is doing an illegal drug and they have a drug test and get kicked out of school, yet the student was making good grades and showed up for class every day eager to learn. I mean it makes since to give them in the workplace because there are many things that can go wrong that could harm the employee plus other employees and possibly harm customers, but in school if your doing drugs then the only person you are harming is yourself because your missing out on your education which is a very important part of your life. Which one did more harm in that situation? It seems to me that random testing in schools would just harm the students more then help them, if there out of class taking a urine test then they are missing important learning time in class. They are the ones who raise them and pay for all their expenses shouldn't they be the ones that are responsible for if their kids are taking any illegal drugs not the government. Students should have a reasonable amount of responsibility and if they chose to not act responsibly and do drugs then as long as its not effecting anybody else should be left to there own mistakes. The money for the tests would have to come from somewhere and do you know where that place is? That's right it's coming out of all the taxpayers pockets. Another key issue would be if random drug testing in public schools is a case of unreasonable search and seizure. The government in some cases probably thinks that society is to blind to acknowledge the fact that there are students who are doing illegal drugs and need to be stop. Another important question would be which does more harm: the drugs or the testing. It seems that it would clearly be a case of unreasonable search and seizure of every student at every school because they do not have any reason to suspect that students are doing any type of illegal drug. South Carolina just recently got the lottery so the educational department could get more money for students educations. There is one other side to look at this from and that is the students.
