Much Ado About Nothing

             In Much Ado About Nothing, by William Shakespeare, the characters had intriguing relationships with each other. The relationships that comprise this play revealed a common truth about human nature. In the same way, the characters exhibited many complex and distinct elements present in all human beings. The romantic relationships of Beatrice, Benedict, Hero, and Claudio mimic the act of courtship and love in the real world. Human beings can discover truths about life, such as relationships in this play, through fiction. Relationships reveal more about human nature and emotion than anything else.
             Love allowed Beatrice, Benedict, Hero, and Claudio to interact in a way that was both comical and entertaining. However, there is a large disparity in the way these people showed their emotions. The differences helped to distinguish each character and his/her personality. The character of Claudio was very impulsive. His actions were very rash and impetuous. He fell in love with Hero without having so much as a conversation with her. Then he fell quickly out of love when he believed her to be cheating on him. If Claudio really loved Hero, he would've cherished her as a human being rather than as that which he coveted. If his love was consistent, his trust in her would've caused him to doubt even his own eyes seeing her with another man. It would also cause him to seek out the truth, no matter how obvious it might seem. He should've had difficulty in believing that someone with whom he shared a piece of his soul could so easily deceive him. Instead of confronting Hero privately, he humiliated her and brought shame to her father. Although these are not the actions of a rational person today, they were necessary to convey the absurdity of the plot.
